A Trip to the Casino Turned Unexpected: A Journey to Care for My Father

We had been planning this trip to Delta Downs Casino for weeks. My husband and I were finally going to take a break from our busy lives and spend a relaxing day together, trying our luck at the slots and enjoying a relaxing dinner. As we set out early in the morning, I felt a sense of excitement and anticipation. We were going to leave our worries behind and indulge in some much-needed me-time. As we arrived at the casino and checked in at the hotel, I couldn't wait to get started. I love the energy of a casino, the sound of clinking glasses and the hum of slot machines in the background. We spent the afternoon trying our luck, laughing and joking with each other. It was the perfect way to spend a day, or so I thought. Just after lunch, as we were on a high after a string of "okay" wins, my phone rang. I hesitated for a moment, thinking it was my daughter or one of my friends, but instead, it was my dad. Something about his tone made me immediately sit up straight. He sounded worried and his words sent a shiver down my spine. "Hey, kiddo, I'm so sorry to call you, but I'm at the hospital and they're saying I need to be admitted. I've got an infection in both of my lower legs," he explained. My heart sank as I listened to his words. He was 1 hour and 45 minutes away, and I knew I had to act fast. I quickly excused myself from the table, my husband following close behind. We stepped out into the humid afternoon air, our excitement suddenly replaced with concern. My dad was in distress, and he needed our support. As I called my aunt PJ to thank her for taking him to the hospital, I couldn't help but feel a mix of emotions. I wanted to be with my dad, but I also knew that PJ was the best person to take care of him in this situation. She's been a rock for him, always there to lend a listening ear or a helping hand. I trusted her implicitly to take care of my dad while I was away with my husband. As I watched my husband try to understand the situation, I knew that this was a turning point in our trip. We were no longer just here to gamble and relax; we had a new responsibility – to get our butts home. I made one last call to let my dad know that PJ was taking care of him, and that I'd be there soon. As I hung up the phone, I realized that life had a way of reminding us of what truly matters. This trip had turned from a fun, relaxing getaway to a time of crisis and concern. But even amidst the chaos, I knew that we would face this challenge together as a family. And so, our day at the casino turned into a day of worrying and waiting. But as I reflected on this experience, I realized that it was a valuable reminder of the importance of family and the power of love and support in our lives.
